Sew Charming Design Co.
Sew Charming Design Co. creates cross-stitch kits that turn beloved places into stitchable keepsakes. Founded by Jamie, who combines her lifelong love of cross-stitch with a passion for university campuses and meaningful locations, the company offers kits featuring iconic buildings and landscapes that people hold dear. When Jamie was ready to elevate her product line with retail focused packaging, she came to me to design a system that was beautiful, sustainable, and easy for her to manage as her business grew.

Jamie had been working on this packaging redesign before we connected. She knew exactly what she wanted: boxes that felt as charming and whimsical as the stitchable scenes inside them, packaging that customers would want to keep, and a system flexible enough to work across her entire product line without requiring custom printing for every design. But there was another goal: retail readiness. Jamie wanted her kits to stand out on store shelves, not just online.
The challenge was creating packaging that could serve two distinct product categories (Campus Keepsake Series and Novelty Keepsake Series) while staying cost-effective and giving Jamie control over future updates as her collection expanded.
We landed on a pizza-style box design—playful, sturdy, and gift-ready. I designed two base templates: one for Campus, one for Novelty. Each box clearly communicates what's inside, includes a welcoming note from Jamie, and sets the tone for the stitching experience ahead.
To keep costs down and maintain flexibility, I created a customizable sticker system in Canva. Jamie can easily swap out kit-specific details (campus name, design title, imagery) and print stickers as needed without ordering entirely new boxes. This meant she could print boxes in bulk while expanding her product line whenever she wanted.
I also designed the cross-stitch instruction guide that ships with every kit, built in Canva so Jamie could make tweaks independently. The guide covers everything from preparing fabric to mounting finished pieces—comprehensive but approachable, matching Jamie's warm brand voice.
The boxes are made by Arka Packaging using sustainable, eco-friendly materials, with stickers printed by Skylark Printing. The result elevated Jamie's kits from "common cross-stitch kits" into retail-ready products that appeal to everyone, not just traditional crafters. Since launching the new packaging, she's been picked up by multiple retail stores—a milestone that wouldn't have been possible with her previous packaging.
After months of planning, the boxes brought Jamie's vision to life exactly as she'd hoped, and gave her the retail credibility she needed to grow.
